SPRIND LAUNCHES 'IP-TRANSFER 3.0' PROJECT

SPRIND is launching an initiative to provide new impetus for the transfer of IP to knowledge-based spin-offs. The kick-off was the publication of a position paper at the end of April 2022.

Together with 17 universities, research institutions and collaborative research institutions, the agency will break new ground in the transfer of IP. The common goal is to produce more knowledge-based spin-offs from the participating institutions and to make the whole process faster, more efficient and at the same time as legally viable as possible, so that the spin-offs have a higher chance of success in subsequent finacing rounds.

The project sees itself as a safe space in which the institutions can experiment, develop, test and implement the models proposed in the position paper or other models for more efficient IP transfer. The participating institutions are encouraged to see themselves as an experimental community, united by the ambition to fundamentally simplify and accelerate IP transfer in spin-offs and to design the process with a view to the future success of the new company.

From the numerous applications, the following institutions were invited to participate in the pilot. All have already confirmed their participation.

• Technische Universität Dortmund (NRW; Exzellenz Start-up Center) • Ruhr-Universität Bochum (NRW; Exzellenz Start-up Center) • Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn (NRW) • Forschungszentrum Jülich (NRW) • Bergische Universität Wuppertal (NRW) • Fachhochschule Aachen (NRW) • Technische Universität München (Bavaria) • Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Bavaria) • Universität der Bundeswehr München (Bavaria) • Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm (Bavaria) • Technische Hochschule Deggendorf (Bavaria) • Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Baden-Württemberg) • Verbundantrag: AI Centre & ELLIS (Universität Tübingen & MPI für Intelligente Systeme, Baden-Württemberg) • Technische Universität Darmstadt (Hesse) • HAWK Hildesheim/Holzminden/Göttingen (Lower Saxony) • Verbundantrag: Quantum Valley Lower Saxony (Technische Universität Braunschweig, Leibniz Universität Hannover und Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt) • Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (Saxony)

We are looking forward to the collaboration!

Kick-off IP transfer 3.0 project in Berlin, November 7

The kick-off for the project took place on November 7 & 8 in Berlin. During this kick-off, the institutions developed their individual road maps for achieving the goals of a faster and more efficient IP Transfer 3.0 in their respective institutions.

The Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft is the implementation partner in this pilot project and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) is responsible for the accompanying monitoring and evaluation. The initiative is also supported by Start-up Niedersachsen through various event formats.
